I am delighted to introduce this month’s Stories on Style guest, Nicky Hilton Rothschild.

Nicky is a dear friend of the brand, as well as a designer, entrepreneur and style icon. A wonderful mother to her three children - Lily-Grace, Theodora and Chasen - she has built a multifaceted career spanning design, publishing and entrepreneurship all while juggling motherhood.

It has been the greatest pleasure collaborating with Nicky on this season’s Spring Summer collection. From those very first ideas and conversations, I knew we were going to create something truly special. I loved hearing Nicky’s nostalgic childhood memories… they are exactly the kind of moments we cherish and celebrate at La Coqueta. From the initial sketches to the toiles and finally seeing each piece come to life in our London studio, the collection came together beautifully and organically.

Balance

You are mother to your three children and have so much going on, how do you strike the balance between work and motherhood?

Motherhood has made me much more selective with my time. I’m very intentional about where my energy goes. When I’m with my children, I really try to be present—phones away, fully engaged in whatever we’re doing. There’s nothing I love more than a day with my girls and Chasen. I approach work the same way, structuring my schedule around their school day as much as possible. It’s never perfect and accepting that is half the battle. Some days I’m a better parent, some days I’m better at work.

Best piece of advice to mothers?

“It’s not what you say, it’s what you do.” I try my best to lead by example. Our children mirror everything we do - the good and the bad - so it’s important to make good choices. Your actions become their actions.

Favourite way to unwind?

I always love a quiet, relaxing self-care moment. A lymphatic massage or a good facial – I love to visit Keren Bartov when I am in London.

What’s the one thing about motherhood that no one ever told you?

That you will never sleep in again and that you have human alarm clocks for the rest of your life! And you never stop worrying.

What does your perfect evening look like?

Cooking at home in pajamas with the family or dinner with my husband and an ice-cold martini!

Family Time

Favourite family activity?

We are currently living in London and love wandering through Notting Hill and taking long walks in the stunning parks. We love the Adventure Playground! The Science Museum and the Natural History Museum are always big hits with the kids, too. And we have visited just about every Jellycat pop-up imaginable…my children are addicted!

Style

We adore your style and the way you dress your children – did your own childhood shape how you dress your children today?

My mother has always been a true inspiration. Growing up, she believed in dressing children as children, a philosophy that has stayed with me ever since and I love picking outfits for my

children. Childhood is such a fleeting moment making it all the more special to celebrate.

Do you think your style has changed since having children?

I would say my style has become very practical…a good ballet flat, jeans, a cozy sweater and a trench coat are my go-to when I’m out and about with the children. For evening, I love to dress up. One of my favorites is “playing dress up begins at 5 and never truly ends.”  So true!

We would love to hear how you plan to style Lily-Grace, Theodora and Chasen for the following occasions?

For Mother’s Day Lunch - I will be dressing the girls in the Lily-Grace dresses - matching with me - paired with silver T-bar shoes and, of course, finished with a bow. Chasen will look picture-perfect in the Nicholai shirt with the Conrad shorts; powder blue feels especially perfect for Mother’s Day.

For a Spring play date - The girls loved the Iris dress and its adorable kitty cat embroidery…I can already picture them running around the garden in them.

Go-to gift ideas for a new arrival?

The very first thing I bought from La Coqueta was a pink cashmere set for my eldest daughter with a matching bonnet and it’s still one of those signature pieces I always come back to, as a gift for friends and family. You just can’t go wrong!

Three items you always have in your handbag.

Snacks, lip balm, iPhone - of course! And a picture of my family on my Theo Grace bag charm… but that’s outside the bag, so it doesn’t count.

My love of bows is no secret - they’re woven throughout the collection, from the statement Edie dress to the delicate pastel details on the Olivia shirt.
