Stories On Style | Saasha Burns

I am delighted to introduce this month’s Stories On Style guest, Saasha Burns.
Join us as we talk all things motherhood, Saasha’s love of travel, tips for exploring the world with children and how her family will be celebrating Easter this year.
Celia X

Saasha is a friend of the brand, creative director, and mother to Atlas, Ocean and Velvet - three little muses who shape her days and inspire her world. She embodies a timeless, effortless sense of style and her deep devotion to motherhood and family is something I have long admired.
Celia: You are mother to your three gorgeous children: Atlas, Ocean and Velvet and a true style inspiration. With so much going on, how do you strike the balance between work and motherhood?
Saasha: Thank you so much! My style has definitely evolved with each baby, and continues to evolve, especially living in Paris. Getting dressed feels more effortless — I reach for what’s comfortable, practical and also feels like me. Less is always more. I’ve definitely learnt to embrace the chaos of motherhood. Balance comes at different times, depending on their ages (and how much sleep we are getting). I’ve learnt to be more selective with creative projects, say no, and really appreciate what I have, now, rather than always dreaming of the future. I feel very grounded at the moment, I really soak up the little things (such as watching Velvet take her first steps), and work mostly in nap windows, and evenings or tag-teaming with my husband. There are a lot of logistics with work and three children. I have learnt to prioritise my time, energy, and not overcommit. And work very fast!
Celia: Best piece of advice for mothers?
Saasha: Listen to your instinct, always. And ask for help, or rest, when you need it.
We both understand that for an artistic result to feel truly natural and spontaneous, it requires countless hours of work behind the scenes. That shared philosophy made the collaboration feel honest, effortless and meaningful from the very beginning.

Celia: What is your favourite way to unwind?
Saasha: A cup of chamomile tea and talking long into the night with my husband. A true luxury! We can barely have a conversation or finish a thought with three little ones in the room.
Celia: What’s the one thing about motherhood that no one ever told you?
Saasha: That life changes in the best possible way. For me, life truly started when I was pregnant with Atlas. I felt like I understood the true meaning of life, and what’s really important. Motherhood is the greatest gift.
Celia: What does your perfect evening look like?
Saasha: A really relaxed bedtime routine with the children, eating dinner together as a family, talking about our day, sharing stories together, and not worrying about the time.

Celia: Favourite family activity?
Saasha: Getting a coffee and all going to the playground together. Velzy loves the swings at the moment! And trying to keep up with her brothers
Celia: Favourite bedtime story to read with the kids?
Saasha: Stories by Philip Bunting are always fun. Velvet loves any lift-the-flap book that she can do herself, such as Spot. We are reading one on repeat at the moment called Wild by Jack Ashby & Sara Boccaccini Meadows, learning about different animals. Atlas’ cousins gave it to him for his six birthday and it’s perfect - he’s so curious about the world and loves learning about different creatures.
Celia: Five essentials every mother needs?
Saasha: Sleep/rest, little moments to yourself throughout the day (or week) to recharge, a creative outlet that keeps you inspired, some pieces in your wardrobe that make you feel really special and like yourself, wholesome nourishing food (a genuine gift to yourself).
Celia: Where will you and your family be spending Easter this year? Do you have any much-loved Easter traditions?
Saasha: This Easter we will be in Melbourne, Australia, just before flying back to Paris. Easter is always such a special time of year, we love talking about the Easter bunny together and doing a little chocolate egg hunt for everyone on Easter Sunday. This year, we have a garden, so we might do our egg hunt outside. Chocolate for breakfast, hot cross buns (my absolute favourite) and spending time together as a family.

Celia: What’s the most important piece of advice you and your husband want to pass onto your children?
Saasha: Oh it’s so hard to just narrow down to one! But overall, we want to teach our children through our own actions and behaviour. If we are kind, thoughtful, curious, open-minded, hard-working and resilient - our children will be too.
Celia: Best piece of advice for mothers?
Saasha: Listen to your instinct, always. And ask for help, or rest, when you need it.
Celia: We shot our last two campaigns in Rio de Janeiro and Granada and we share your love of travel and discovering new cultures. What has been one of your favourite places to visit with your children?
Saasha: Such fun campaigns! We love nothing more than going on adventures together. We were recently in Val-d'Isère and it was very special seeing everyone tobogganing and enjoying the snow. A simple change of scenery and break from routine can help create the best memories. We also love returning to places that we love and hold a lot of meaning such as Byron Bay, Australia, the South of France, and Portugal as a family. The boys love swimming and being out in nature.
Celia: What do you love most about dividing your time between Australia and Paris?
Saasha: Experiencing both cultures and enjoying life as a local in both countries. All the little things — our favourite gardens and playgrounds, morning rituals and coffee spots that we walk to together, appreciating the beauty in both Paris and Australia. The connection to their homeland, in Australia, and embracing change and new experiences in Paris.
Celia: What are your travel must-haves with children?
Saasha: Snacks!! Lots and lots of snacks!!
Celia: We adore your style and the way you dress your children – what is your approach to dressing? Both your own wardrobe and the children’s.
Saasha: Thank you so much. I have adored being a girl mama, and loved dressing Velvet in all the sweet rompers and dresses with gorgeous prints and collars. I think it’s definitely influenced how I dress the boys as well. When they were younger, they wore lots of bold prints and colours, and as they’ve grown, they are wearing more timeless pieces such as crisp white tees, pinstripes and loafers. I really consider what pieces come into their wardrobes, and they get so much wear out of their clothing (the boys share pieces, and Atlas passes down styles to Ocean). I always invest in quality pieces and consider where they are made. They have grown up wearing La Coqueta, especially Velzy (even her first newborn outfit was the pink Fernanda cashmere set). They are still at ages where I can choose their outfits, and I really love getting them dressed, it’s such a joy, and something I don’t take for granted.
Celia: Do you think your style has changed since having your three children?
Saasha: Absolutely. In the best possible way. My taste and style have definitely evolved, I know what really suits me, what pieces to invest in, and what brands I love. Getting dressed is a feeling, and the small personal details make an outfit feel effortless. The shape and length of a pair of jeans, the cut of a t shirt or shirt that you love (rather than what’s trending), worn in loafers that I run around in all day, my favourite watch, sunglasses and jewellery that complete an outfit.

Celia: Go-to gift ideas for a new arrival?
Saasha: Soft cashmere, always.
Celia: Three items you always have in your handbag.
Saasha: Sunglasses, lip balm, and at the moment snacks for the boys or Velvet…a mini box of sultanas, tiny teddies (biscuits in Australia) or a muesli bar, an apple or peach thrown in.
Celia: We adore all that you do and would like to round up the conversation by asking, what’s next for you?
Saasha: We are really enjoying spending time in Australia, especially over summer. Slowing down a little, taking a break from expat life, and spending time with our families. We are building a house in the Byron hinterland, which is a very exciting project and one we are so grateful for. It’s an expression of our personal style and taste, coming together to create a warm, family home. We also have our ten-year wedding anniversary and vow renewal coming up in September, and it will be a very special celebration with Atlas, Ocean and Velvet by our sides.
